First-Rift usability session
Use this protocol with at least five first-time testers who have not contributed to PixelRifts. Do not coach unless the tester is blocked for five minutes; record every intervention.
Task
Start from https://workshop.pixelrifts.com/?usability=1. Workshop creates a random eight-character session code and records milestone timestamps only in that browser's local storage. It records no guest ID, share URL, name, email address, or screen content.
The tester must:
- Save the Platformer Starter as a cloud draft.
- Move one platform.
- Add a collectible and attach touch logic.
- Test and observe a score change.
- Publish an unlisted version.
- Open the share link.
- Start a remix from that link.
Start timing when Workshop becomes interactive and stop when the remix draft loads. The Phase 2 target is a median under 30 minutes with no developer intervention.
The guided panel completes automatically after the remix loads and displays an anonymous JSON result containing the session code, start/completion time, duration, completed milestone names, and intervention count. The facilitator selects Record facilitator intervention whenever non-leading help is given. Copy only that result into the aggregate evidence process.
Record
For each tester record an anonymous session code, total minutes, task completion, number of documentation searches, non-leading interventions, errors encountered, and short qualitative notes. Do not record names, email addresses, raw screen recordings, or share URLs in the repository.
Summarize medians and repeated friction in docs/product/PHASE_2_USABILITY_EVIDENCE.md. Product guidance must be revised and the session repeated if the exit gate is missed.
